Little kids and animals are the perfect costume choice and they always work well together, especially as a costume idea. There are so many different adorable animal costumes that you can put on your child, that narrowing it down to five can be a little difficult. It doesn’t matter how young your child is, in fact, a sleeping newborn wearing an animal costume can be beyond adorable.

Idea Number One: Puppy Dogs

What are little boys made of? Among other things, puppy dog tails, or at least, that’s how the story goes. Little boys and girls dressed as puppy dogs are just adorable. They can be beagles, they can be poodles, and they can even be wildly revved up Jack Russell terriers.

Idea Number Two: Kitty Cats.

We have to give the felines equal billing here. Kiddies dressed as kitties can be so adorable that you will purr. These costume ideas can be as simple as a little leotard and some fake ears or more elaborate, like a professionally created costume.

Idea Number Three: Lions and Tigers

The kitty cat idea is cute, of course, but lions and tigers are equally adorable. Imagine that you have a sleeping baby in your arms, complete with a little tawny mane. He yawns which looks like the king of the jungle roaring. Cue the “aw”.

Idea Number Four: Ponies and Unicorns

When a toddler comes wandering into a room, they catch the attention of everyone. But when he comes staggering in like a sailor on a listing ship, dressed as a pony, everyone is going to rush to get their cameras. As a costume choice, horses and unicorns are perfect for those kids who are up and walking, because it is funny to watch a pony that doesn’t quite have the hang of his little legs.

Idea Number Five: Bunnies and Bears

No costume idea list would be complete without bunnies and/or bears. Both are classic kids costume ideas and both are purely adorable. These are great choices especially for the cooler weather or for events that are going to be outside.

Some general suggestions when dressing your child in animal costumes: Use makeup instead of masks, but use caution when using makeup with very young children. Consider the temperature and the thickness of the costume. Bring a second outfit with you just in case there is a need to make a change, or if the costume becomes too warm. These costume ideas are a favorite for parents and children and are so great to enjoy until those super hero years kick in!
