We cannot stress it hard enough: it is tough to lose weight. A busy work schedule makes it difficult to make the time for exercise. And as the work load builds up, so does our tendency towards stress snacking. We grab anything in sight, and the easiest ones to find are junk food. We gorge on these treats without thinking twice about what we end up putting in our bodies.

But there is a solution. Small, frequent feedings keep your metabolism going and healthy snacks will keep you full for longer, thus preventing overeating. On 100CalorieBags.com, a food calculator is available for you to make low calorie snack bags with any of your favourite snacks and raw ingredients. With just your creativity and a simple food scale, you can make permutations of healthy snack bags that will help you finally get on a doable diet and lose those extra pounds.

To get you started, here is a list of healthy snack ideas you can enjoy while working in the office or on the field. Eat them alone or combine to make 100-calorie snack bags. Match these healthy snacks with your coffee or tea. Once you get the idea, share this brilliant snacking innovation so the healthy bug goes around your family, your friends and your colleagues.

Car, Plane, and Train Snacks

It’s always a good idea to have snacks as your travel. Vending machine snacks can be too high in sugar and salt. Others can also be too expensive. The worst thing is being empty-handed during the worst of traffic jams and delayed flights. Too much hunger can make you binge the moment you get to eat. Bring some of these healthy snacks along so you don’t ruin your diet and burn your pocket.

Raisinets Chocolate Covered Raisins – 45g (190 calories)
    Smoked almonds – 28g (170 calories)
    Apples – 125g (65 calories)
    Bananas – 114.5g (100 calories)
Planters Mixed Nuts Deluxe – 16.5g (100 calories)
Barnum’s Animal Choco Crackers Cookie Crisps – 22g (100 calories)

Office Desk Snack Stash

Have little to no time to sneak out for a snack? No problem. These healthy snacks can be stored in your desk drawer or cabinet to satisfy hunger pains. Pair them up with your favourite cup of coffee or tea. You work hard, so give yourself a break. Allowing yourself some healthy snacks in between meals will lessen your stress and keep your metabolism up and running, burning you more calories than when you have three big meals a day.

Peeled and Sliced Raw Cucumber – 133g (16 calories)

Mini-Fridge Healthy Delights

They’re convenient for those hectic days when all you have are five-minute breaks. And when things wind down a bit, they can also double as your lunch! Share them with office mates to encourage more people to bring their own healthy snacks. Mix and match and create a healthy (and fun!) working environment.

If you want the best moisturizer, there are many factors to consider. The factors concern the ingredients or combination of ingredients included in the product. They should be safe for people and the environment. They should also be effective.

Most moisturizers contain some petrolatum and mineral oil. They are basically cheap fillers. They are included to make the lotion feel like you think it should; a little slick, a little greasy.

Petrolatum, mineral oil and other petroleum derivatives may be contaminated with cancer-causing chemicals, because of the factories in which they are created. The use of petrochemicals of all kinds may be accompanied by an increased risk of cancer. Many popular fragrance ingredients are derived from petrochemicals.

So, if you want the safest product, you want one that is free of added fragrances. You also want one that is free of artificial preservatives.

Parabens and other artificial preservatives may also increase a person's risk of cancer. Many researchers believe that is the case. Whether or not they cause cancer is still unknown, but they are known allergens. Fragrance ingredients and artificial preservatives are the most common causes of allergic reactions to cosmetics.

Today's best moisturizer is preserved using natural vitamin E, which is also good for your skin's health. It reduces your risk of age spots, helps to prevent free radical damage and works to reduce fine lines or wrinkles.

It contains no added fragrances. Even naturally occurring plant fragrances can cause reactions when they are concentrated. Sometimes, you are unaware that a reaction is occurring. We become so accustomed to smelling perfumes; we are often unaware that they are making our sinuses ache and our throats itch.

Petrochemicals are not a good choice from an environmental perspective, since they are derived from crude oil, a fossil fuel partly responsible for global warming. Today's best moisturizer contains no petrochemicals, no mineral oil and no petrolatum.

The most moisturizing ingredients are plant oils combined with a protein extracted from sheep's wool. Years ago, squalene was commonly recommended for improving the skin's moisture content without causing problems, because it is similar to sebum, the skin's natural oils.

But squalene is whale oil. From an environmental perspective, whaling should be stopped. Some species have been hunted to near extinction.

Then there is animal testing. Testing cosmetics on animals was commonplace until animal rights groups went to work. Now, it is about to be banned in the European Union.

Today's best moisturizer was not tested on animals. The company responsible for it was confident enough in the safety to invite human volunteers to give the product a try before it was released. Testing for safety and effectiveness are not required, but the better companies work hard to ensure the performance of their products.

When it comes to effectiveness, today's big push is for anti-aging ingredients. There are some excellent formulas on the market, but most are not so good. The best moisturizer is one that contains the antioxidant coenzyme Q10 in a special form designed to penetrate the skin. Learn more about it and you'll understand why.

Testing Cosmetics On Animals

Testing Cosmetics On Animals

Testing Cosmetics On Animals

So, if you want the safest product, you want one that is free of added fragrances. You also want one that is free of artificial preservatives.

Parabens and other artificial preservatives may also increase a person’s risk of cancer. Many researchers believe that is the case. Whether or not they cause cancer is still unknown, but they are known allergens. Fragrance ingredients and artificial preservatives are the most common causes of allergic reactions to cosmetics.

Today’s best moisturizer is preserved using natural vitamin E, which is also good for your skin’s health.

Testing Cosmetics On Animals

Testing Cosmetics On Animals

Petrochemicals are not a good choice from an environmental perspective, since they are derived from crude oil, a fossil fuel partly responsible for global warming. Today’s best moisturizer contains no petrochemicals, no mineral oil and no petrolatum.

The most moisturizing ingredients are plant oils combined with a protein extracted from sheep’s wool. Years ago, squalene was commonly recommended for improving the skin’s moisture content without causing problems, because it is similar to sebum, the skin’s natural oils.

But squalene is whale oil. From an environmental perspective, whaling should be stopped. Some species have been hunted to near extinction.

Then there is animal testing. Testing cosmetics on animals was commonplace until animal rights groups went to work. Now, it is about to be banned in the European Union.

Testing Cosmetics On Animals

Testing Cosmetics On Animals

Today’s best moisturizer was not tested on animals. The company responsible for it was confident enough in the safety to invite human volunteers to give the product a try before it was released. Testing for safety and effectiveness are not required, but the better companies work hard to ensure the performance of their products.

When it comes to effectiveness, today’s big push is for anti-aging ingredients. There are some excellent formulas on the market, but most are not so good. The best moisturizer is one that contains the antioxidant coenzyme Q10 in a special form designed to penetrate the skin. Learn more about it and you’ll understand why.

We all enjoy seeing wildlife up close, but some animals shouldn't be touched with the proverbial ten foot pole. Take the raccoon for instance. It's the state animal in Tennessee, looks cute and cuddly, but raccoons can cause many problems for home and business owners.

Besides the fact that raccoons are a rabies vector species (carrier of the rabies virus), raccoons can also carry canine distemper. Both distemper and rabies have similar symptoms, including staggered gait when walking, crusting around the eyes, disorientation and a lack of fear of humans. Any mammal, be it raccoon, opossum, fox, etc. exhibiting these characteristics should be avoided, and a wildlife expert should be contacted for safe removal of the animal.

One of the lesser known pitfalls of close contact with raccoons is the possibility of being exposed to raccoon roundworm.

Raccoon roundworm is a parasite that lives inside the raccoon but seldom affects the host raccoon. The main concern is the roundworm eggs, or larvae, which are deposited in the raccoon feces. Humans or pets may be exposed to the larvae if they inadvertently come into contact with these raccoon droppings.

At greatest risk are young children, who having a tendency to put foreign objects into their mouth, are more susceptible to ingesting the larvae. The larvae are able to remain viable in droppings for many years, so even seemingly dried-up feces should be handled with extreme care. Boiling water is often used to clean soiled wooden or concrete surfaces such as decks and patios, and contaminated sand in sand boxes should be carefully discarded and replaced. Areas in the yard where there are raccoon droppings can be burned with a torch to remove eggs that may have been deposited onto the ground.

Raccoons are increasingly being found in suburban and industrial areas. Raccoons are attracted to food sources such as cat food and dog food that is left out overnight, and bird feeders, trash cans and dumpsters. The raccoon tends to look for a den site close to these food sources, and in many cases this can be your home's attic or crawlspace.

Over the years, our company has removed hundreds of raccoons from attics and crawlspaces, including 13 raccoons from one attic and crawlspace of an iconic, late, great country music artist near Nashville. The smell in these areas can be unbelievable!

The bottom line is if you have raccoons visiting your property, or you suspect you have a raccoon living in your attic or crawlspace, call an expert for immediate removal!

While many may not be aware of it, there are actually potential health complications associated with animal slippers. Individuals who wear these cute, fuzzy little shoe types may be surprised to know that prolonged wear can result in complications with the legs, as well as the feet in general.

Recent studies indicated that what we once viewed as a comfortable means of protecting our feet can actually pose a large number of problems. In this article, you will be introduced to the potential health complications associated with animal slippers.

Researchers who gained an interest in the complications of certain types of footwear recently conducted a study on the various types of feet protection. One study compared the effects of slippers in comparison to the effects of standard, everyday sneakers. This study profiled both men and women.

These individuals were ages 19 to age 25. It was discovered that those who wore sneakers were able to take faster, longer strides than the individuals in the same age groups who wore slip on slippers. This seems to indicate that a lack of an appropriate support system within the slipper may actually prove to hinder the range of mobility that an individual has.

There are certain individuals who are more prone to the health complications associated with slippers than others. One group is small children - especially toddlers who are learning to walk. This type of shoe may actually slow down their overall progression in learning to walk, and may even limit their overall range of flexibility and mobility.

This is especially true considering that their bones and muscles are growing at a relatively high rate. The next group of individuals who may be affected by wearing those cute little animal slippers are the elderly. The limited range of mobility may result in their bones calcifying. This, of course, can lead to arthritis, and bone spurs.

As you can see, many complications may arise from wearing those nice, soft slippers. It is important to make certain that the foot protection that you wear more each day has a high level of support and comfort. Slippers often rank high in comfort, but rank low in support.

If you do elect to purchase a type of slipper for inside use, it is absolutely important that you shop for those who have a high support level - not only for comfort, but for the safety of your feet and legs too! Chances are those little animal slippers do not offer any type of real support for the health of your lower body.

Imagine leaving every creature comfort you have to embark on life in a developing country, dedicating yourself to helping the poorest of the poor – the forgotten children of that nation. Imagine saying good-bye to your big house, luxury car, designer clothes, and technological gadgets so you can live among the impoverished. That’s exactly what one person did, and he’s never regretted his decision.

Scott Smith* left his job as an executive of a movie studio to open an orphanage in Cambodia. Before doing so he took a trip to Cambodia and was blown away by the conditions the orphans there live in. With no food, shelter, or parental supervision, these children fend for themselves on the dirty streets, doing everything from digging through trash for recyclables to resorting to prostitution just to survive. Scott knew he had to do something to help as many children as possible.

So he started Cambodia Children’s Fund (CCF) and opened an orphanage where he takes in children who have nowhere else to go and gives them the one thing they need the most: hope.

Since opening the orphanage, Scott has learned one key lesson – when you give you get. And many people – both his friends and strangers – have visited his orphanage to spend a week or two helping out, trying to make the children’s lives a little better. Some may ask, “Why would you spend your free time going to a developing country and staying in a dirty place with kids with diseases and emotional issues?”

Realize that when you go – or do anything else selfless for another – you receive so much in return. Taking a few weeks and giving of yourself is so much more rewarding than sitting on a beach with an umbrella drink. Yes, when you give you get – meaning you get a lifetime experience and event you’ll cherish forever, not just another moment in time you’ll forget. And while this concept applies to any kind of giving act, from rescuing abused animals to cleaning a beach to helping a local senior citizen, when you’re helping children you’re helping the future. When you rescue one child you’re really rescuing a part of yourself. You see in that child the incompleteness of your childhood and the hurts you endured, and you start to heal.

So ask yourself this key question: What do you see in your life that you really want to do that is important? Do you want to help children in a foreign land? Do you want to tutor youth in your own neighborhood? Do you want to give a young unwed mother a chance at a better future for herself and her child? Whatever it is that touches your soul, that’s where you need to start.

Unfortunately, many people never get past the dreaming phase. They feel deep down that they’d like to help, but they never take that first step. They get that uneasy feeling that they’re stepping out of their comfort zone and into something they possibly can’t handle – physically, emotionally, or mentally. But in fact, when you see how other people live, you gain a greater appreciation for your life. You also gain a closer relationship yourself. You tap into a part of yourself that you never met. Since you’re not put in these situations every day, these are learning lessons that are hard to come by, but completely life changing.

If you feel ready to take the plunge and follow your soul’s calling to help another, here are some principles that will help.

• Prepare by reading and researching the work of others.
Chances are you’re not the first person to have this idea or this desire to help. Therefore, do some research into what you’re about to embark upon and see what others have done already. Read articles written by and about them, scour their websites for information and encouragement, and glean whatever words of wisdom or preparation you can. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. If someone has found resources, discovered success tips, or gained years of experience to share, then there’s no reason why you can’t follow in that person’s footsteps. Learn from them to make your intended path easier…and more enjoyable.

• Travel or work with a humanitarian group.
Whether your calling takes you overseas, to another state, or simply into the inner city of your locale, you can find some humanitarian group that can help you. These groups have ties and often resources in the area already and can make embarking on your journey less scary. There’s safety in numbers, and you can lean on your fellow humanitarian group members for support when you feel overwhelmed. Of course, you can do whatever you want on your own as well. You don’t need to work with a group. But if you have reservations, a humanitarian group will help buffer you by acting as a support system to help quench your fears. You can find these groups online very easily. If doing something like Scott appeals to you, go to www.whispersfoundation.com to find humanitarian groups that travel to help children overseas.

• Just do it and the fear will diminish.
The old saying, “Just do it,’ is so appropriate here. In 99 percent of people, any fear they have subsides the minute they take the first step and just do it. There’s comfort in doing, because doing something – any small step at all – distracts your mind from any fears you may have. And that first step builds momentum that will see you through the remaining steps. Just as physics tells us that a body in motion stays in motion, a person in action toward a worthwhile goal or cause stays in action. So do whatever first step is necessary – do research, make a phone call, buy a plane ticket, etc. Take that first step and the rest will come naturally.

Change the World – Change Yourself
Helping children is one way to make a huge difference in the world. It’s also a way to dramatically change yourself. Realize that you don’t have to uproot your entire life like Scott did to make a difference. Simply giving a few days or a few weeks of your time to help someone else will create tremendous change – both in the people you help as well as your own soul. As with many things in life, it’s the small things that add up to incredible transformation. So listen to that little voice telling you to do something and follow your calling. You’ll be glad you did.

World's Scariest Animals

World’s Scariest Animals

World's Scariest Animals

World’s Scariest Animals

World's Scariest Animals

World’s Scariest Animals

Change the World – Change Yourself
Helping children is one way to make a huge difference in the world. It’s also a way to dramatically change yourself. Realize that you don’t have to uproot your entire life like Scott did to make a difference. Simply giving a few days or a few weeks of your time to help someone else will create tremendous change – both in the people you help as well as your own soul. As with many things in life, it’s the small things that add up to incredible transformation. So listen to that little voice telling you to do something and follow your calling. You’ll be glad you did.

World's Ugliest Dog contest takes place every year in Petaluma, California, being part of Sonoma-Marin Fair. There are several categories, such as Pedigree Class, Mutt Class, Ring of Champions and Ugly Dog of the Year. For this last category, winners of Pedigree and Mutt classes are chosen. Ring of Champions is a battle between the previous World's Ugliest Dogs and the Ugly Dog of the Year. There is also a contest for Crazy Dog Tricks. The winner not only gets the title 'The World's Ugliest Dog' but also a prize of $1,000. Both the dog and its owner became famous worldwide, and appear on talk shows and papers around the world.

The event has been around for 22 years, is sponsored by Animal Planet and is broadcast on television. The Sonoma-Marin Fair and its partners, Sonoma County Human Society are trying to educate the public on animals' issues and to offer opportunities for adoption of dogs. Dogs from all over the world can enter the competition.

The 2009 winner was a boxer mix named Pabst and he put an end to the seven year reign of the Chinese Crested breed. Pabst was a four year old, rescued from a shelter by his owner.

The 2003, 2004 and 2005 titles were all won by Sam who was a Chinese Crested dog. Chinese Crested are hairless dogs, but hairlessness varies from dog to dog. It is probably their long tongue and huge eyes that make them so compatible with the title. Half of the entries in the pedigree class in 2009 were Chinese Crested. Sam's owner had to be persuaded to take the dog after he had been rejected by an adoption agency. Susie Lockheed, Sam's owner suffered from allergies that could become worse if she was near furry dogs. Susie took Sam for a trial period of two days, but this turned into five years of companionship. Mrs. Lockheed first saw Sam while he was being walked by his first owner. He wasn't friendly with her, but she liked his looks as she had owned rescue hairless dogs before. When Sam's owner had to move house, no shelter wanted to take him because of his age, looks and personality. After winning the title, Sam became the most famous ugliest dog, being featured on CNN and meeting Donald Trump.

Princess Abby was a four-year old purebred Chihuahua who won the 2010 contest. Princess Abby was adopted from a veterinarian a few months before the contest. She competed against Pabst, among others.

One of the world's ugliest dogs, Miss Ellie also won the 2009 competition in the pedigree category. Unfortunately, she died in June 2010, at the age of 17 and was blind in her last years. Since she won the title she helped animal shelters raise thousands of dollars. She was regarded as a hero in her hometown, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. More than $100,000 was raised for the local humane society. She had appeared in billboards and commercials, and was featured on Fox News.

When asking the question where do monkeys live, New World Monkeys often come to mind. These monkeys live in Central and South America primarily in the tropical rainforests. They are generally smaller than the Old World monkey species and much more agile and tend to live more in the trees than on the ground. They have long tails that can be used as a fifth hand to help them move quickly in the tree tops. They tend to have nostrils that are placed further apart than Old World Monkeys. Since their lives are usually spent in the trees they lack the sitting pads on their behinds as well as lacking the pouches in their cheeks to hold food.

Some species are so small and cute, such as the marmosets and tamarins, that people naturally assume they can be made into pets. Indeed, they are taken from their mothers and bottle fed in an attempt to domesticate them; however once they outgrow the dependence on their owner as a parent they can become aggressive, unpredictable, and even dangerous to their owners.

The Capuchin monkeys are one of the species that are most recognizable. Even though they are often trained to help injured people who are paralyzed or paraplegic people, that training comes from professional trainers who spend years learning how to train them. Most average people do not have the patience, experience, or stamina to properly train a monkey to be a pet, and it is advisable that you not try.

In many areas of North America they are totally banned, and if not banned they are very heavily restricted. The danger of spreading disease, catching human diseases, or escaping and causing a threat to native species are some of the reasons. They can be challenging in the best case scenario and impossible in the worst case scenarios.

Some animal activists believe it is better to try to domesticate some of the critical or endangered species rather than have them be lost from the world forever. Some have considered cloning, but many believe the best option is for man to be more responsible in the saving of their native lands than placing them in our world.

The bottom line from the smallest New World Marmoset to the largest Old World Baboon, the way they interact with man and the many laws of man is the largest determining factor when pondering the question where do monkeys live.

Looking for a design that's chic and at the same time unconventional? Try your luck at animal jewelry. Far from being tacky or inelegant, animal designs are actually rather distinctive. Finely crafted jewelry with animal motifs lends a mysterious air to the person who wears them.

Graceful jewelry patterns can be achieved with animal motifs. Dolphins, snakes, swans, and other beautiful beings of nature depict naked beauty and mysticism, and including images of them in jewelry inspires this "look." Moreover, the carnal appeal of wearing nature-themed jewelry should not be bypassed; sporting nature-themed accessories speaks of someone who is in tune with an "inner animal." If we're going to talk sex appeal -- well, animal jewelry may just be an understated way to achieve it!

Animal jewelry is also a great way of encouraging environmental awareness and love of nature -- even among children. A child who has a favorite pet may appreciate having animal jewelry to remind him or her of that pet. In fact, if the pet were domesticated enough to sport a little jewelry as well -- like a cat or a dog -- it might be great if master and pet could have matching pieces! Like a pendant for the collar for Poochie, which could also be worn as a bracelet charm for Nancy.

In fact, not only children would appreciate jewelry that would remind them of favorite pets. If one had a favorite animal, a pet, a totem spirit or just an animal with whom s/he identifies with, a piece of charm jewelry would be a great gift. An accessory that reminds one of a pleasant thought is always something that makes one glow.

The inner strength one derives from inspiring motifs is one of the best things about animal jewelry; when a person is calmed or energized by the sight of a familiar animal, it affects one's mood and the way one looks at things. In fact, Native American tradition believes that animals can give you strength and guidance. Jewelry symbolizing these animals may serve as a reminder for someone who desires to be stronger in one particular aspect. For example: the dragonfly symbolizes illusion, the deer symbolizes gentleness, the bear means power, and so forth.

A person may select his/her ensemble based on his/her philosophies, or simply the feelings of the moment. A person who wishes to give another the gift of animal jewelry may consider which particular animal/s the recipient brings to mind. This requires a personal touch, and this in itself makes the act of selecting animal jewelry a cherished moment indeed!

Animal’s

Animal jewelry is also a great way of encouraging environmental awareness and love of nature — even among children. A child who has a favorite pet may appreciate having animal jewelry to remind him or her of that pet. In fact, if the pet were domesticated enough to sport a little jewelry as well — like a cat or a dog — it might be great if master and pet could have matching pieces!

Animal's

Animal’s

The inner strength one derives from inspiring motifs is one of the best things about animal jewelry; when a person is calmed or energized by the sight of a familiar animal, it affects one’s mood and the way one looks at things.
